Waking up is hard to do

When i switched jobs in July i was very excited because i could sleep in a bit, my new job was only 6 miles from my house instead of the 18 mile commute in heavy traffic i had before.

But as time has gone by it has gotten harder and harder to get out of bed in the morning.

I try to be at work by 8am so that i can take an hour lunch and still be out by 4:30pm but lately i have been getting up later and later. I've been getting to work around 8:15 or 8:30, which is fine cause if i eat lunch at work i can still leave at 4:30pm, but i miss having a lunch break.

My other problem is that i'm tired all day at work. I sometimes drink 2 and 3 cups of coffee or resort to diet soda (cherry coke zero is the only one i can stomach) just to stay awake and then when i get home i take a nap or lay on the sofa for hours.

What do you do to motivate yourself to get up in the morning and keep yourself energized throughout the day?

Kathy,

This doesn't sound like a motivation issue...it sounds more like an iron deficiency. If you have a check-up coming up in the near future, ask your doctor to check your iron levels – you could be anemic. This happens to women a lot more than men. Are you taking a multi-vitamin? Have you cut out red-meat or shell-fish from your diet? Just something to think about – it might not be mental…sounds physical to me.

i never thought about that. my mom is anemic. i have not taken red meat and fish out of my diet and i have a multi vitamin but i forget to take it most days. i will try to be more consistent in my vitamin taking and we shall see what happens. i don't have a Dr appt for some time and i usually don't go unless i'm bleeding.

I've been finding that if i get up early enough in the morning to relax for a little bit and make myself breakfast, check e-mails and such, before i have to leave the house that my whole day is much better and i feel more awake.
