Feels Like Home To Me.

Have you ever been somewhere and known instantly that that place is home?

For me, my favorite place on earth is Cambridge, England.

I spent a month there the summer between my junior and senior years of High School studying communications and journalism in a summer program and I totally fell in love.

There are certain things that always remind me of my favorite town, baked potatoes (from Tatties), the Open Market, Current juice (which I can never find in the states except for at Wegmans from concentrate), Punting on the river, and drinking tea at the Galleria.

So this morning when I went to Corner Bakery for breakfast I was amazed to find Black Current Iced Tea! It was wonderful.

I always get euphoric when I think about Cambridge and I think if I ever have the opportunity I would love to live there. Even if only for a year or two, but I would retire their in a heartbeat.

birth control and bags.

As weekends go this was a pretty uneventful one. Instead of opting to go out I spent most of it inside. I hate the heat unless I’m in the pool so I spent almost all of yesterday in bed and alternating between napping and reading.

I am currently reading…

Choice: True Stories of Birth, Contraception, Infertility, Adoption, Single Parenthood, and Abortion

By Nina Gramont

It’s really very good. I think all women should read it.

In other news my new co-worker (see post below) is still driving me mad. He keeps assuming that I will be doing his work until the end of the year. I don’t think so buddy!

Anyway I just came back from a two hour lunch meeting which was a nice change of pace and makes my day a lot shorter considering I don’t usually take lunch.

Anyway I have spent way too much money this month already and I spend half my day at work shopping on-line. This is bad!

Maybe I should start Christmas shopping now, it might keep me from buying for myself and at least I get it done early. Only problem is I really don’t have a very good summer wardrobe. Maybe I need another trip to Ross. I totally love that place. A few weeks ago I bought 3 dresses and a pair of shoes for a little over $80. This past weekend I spent $73 on two shirts at Ann Taylor Loft, so not a bargain! BTW did you know you can’t use Ann Taylor Coupons at Ann Taylor Loft??? That’s crap!

And I totally want a new hand bag. I just cant choose which one I want!

what do you think?

Soap Box

*gets up on her soap box*

I am Sick of your Holier than Thou attitude!

You may have been in this business longer than I have, but I have been at this company longer than you have and when I tell you that we do things a certain way it is not because I think it’s better than your way, it’s because I have already tried to change it and been reprimanded for it.

Just get over yourself!

And while I’m up here, who the hell gave you permission to call me “Kath” the first day you met me. You can call me Kathy just like everyone else!

*steps down from the soap box*

YAY! Cheese!

Ok so enough of the wedding stuff.

I do have a new cheese to share.

Mature Cheddar with Malt Whisky

Available from October to December, this is an admirable cheese for the festive season. Clawson has taken a fine Mature Cheddar and added a good helping of malt whisky, making this a warming, wintertime cheese.

http://www.somerdale.co.uk/lcdsavoury.htm

This cheese is definitely the best cheese I have ever had! Yes I know what you’re thinking…but Kathy it’s not blue cheese! I know but by far this cheese is totally amazing, you can really taste the Whisky. It’s a bit crumbly but very creamy and wonderful served cold with water crackers or olives.

It’s hard to find because it has to be imported from the UK but SO worth it!

Here’s a secret…

If you are ever at the Maryland Renaissance Festival go to Wolfstone Kilt Company and you will be able to try this cheese for free!

But you did not hear it from me!

I wanted to share this neat gadget...

I figure for Halloween, or Thanksgiving or a fall themed wedding these would be fantastic!

and because i was bored i made this inspiration board, i think it would be cute for my friend Erika's Wedding.

the whole thing started with the henna invitations and kind of took off from there. thats all for today!

the blues

So yesterday Russ and I received the sad news that Daisy, Russ’s family dog was put to sleep. They took her to the vet yesterday and found that her body was full of tumors and that one would suffocate her eventually. Putting her to sleep was really the only humane option. Russ is really sad. I wish I could find something to remind him of her like a daisy keychain or something that’s not too girly.

Onto a lighter note for those of you who may be reading this and do not know, I am totally addicted to Blue Cheese. One of my favorites can sometimes be found at Whole Foods and is called “The Roaring 40’s”

“Roaring Forties Blue Cheese is made by the Kings Island Dairy, on an island just north of Tasmania. The "Roaring Forties" part of the name comes from the nasty winds on the island and it's location at the 40th latitude.”

i love the fall!

So I know I’m not getting married yet, I’m not even engaged. But I have been reading all these wedding blogs and I love their inspiration boards. So I decided I would make one for the wedding of my dreams. This is my first attempt. I’m sure things will change but this is the basic idea…

The dress I totally love and I’m pretty sure that won’t change. Everything else (including the bridesmaid dresses) is up for discussion. BTW I really like the bouquet!

What a Hoot!

So last night as we were eating dinner on the porch we heard what sounded like a dog barking, but really it was an Owl!

We have had an owl before but this one sounded different so I called my friend Erika, who knows about these things, to see if she new what kind of owl it was.

She was able to hear it a bit and from what we have deduced it is a Barred Owl which Kate has now named Oberon.

The Barred Owl, Erika informs me, makes a call that sounds like this…

“Who cooks for you, who cooks for youuu all”

(isn’t he cute!)

She also believes that the Owl we had before was a Great Horned Owl, but find it weird that we have a Barred because Owl’s are territorial and the Great Horned is much bigger that the Barred.

Anyway the Great Horned Owl has a call that goes like this…

“Who’s Awake, Meee too”

In other news…

For those of you who watch Top Chef…

Stephanie Won!

She is the first woman to win in 4 seasons of the show!

Although I was a huge Antonia fan, I am very happy for Stephanie. I hear she is already looking for a location for her new restaurant.

Bluemont Vineyard

This past weekend i attended a wedding at the Bluemont Vineyard. it was a very nice intimate ceremony, on a beautiful evening.

After having tasted their wines Kate and I decided on the Vionger. it was wonderfully refreshing for the hot and humid evening and went extreemly well with the blue cheese!

2006 Viognier“The Goat”A dry white wine.

Barrel fermented and aged.

Crisp and balanced with citrus and pear aromas.$23.00 / bottle

i also enjoyed their Peach wine which was not advertised on the website, but i tottaly recomend it. i bought two bottles. it's perfect for those people who like the tase of a peach wine but not all the sweetness. this wine is great chilled!

Miserably hot!

The air conditioning in my office was off until about an hour ago. It’s just now cooling off, and for some reason today just won’t end! It just keeps going and going!

One of my assignments for the day… Buy a wedding gift for one of our clients. Love it.

Other than that it’s slow going.

Sometimes I feel like I have so much free time in the office I should be planning a wedding or something just to pass the time. But of course it’s not possible for me to work from home on my slow days so I can get household stuff done.

On an entirely different note…

I’m pretty sure that my boyfriend HATES weddings. I have now been to four with him (3 of which were in the last two months) and I really don’t see him being any help at all or enjoying himself at the wedding if we were to get married.

Of course for me it’s something I have been planning my entire life and I don’t want to nix the idea of ever having one but I think I’m going to have to totally re-hall the traditional wedding to him and my dad to enjoy themselves. My dad by the way hates that weddings are so structured. So it looks like IF I ever get married it will have to be more of a party than a traditional wedding.

Don’t worry girls I’ll still have bridesmaids!

I would really like my wedding to be outside in the fall, one problem, all my faire friends will be working fire every weekend Aug-Oct so that leaves me with Halloween weekend (which could be fun) or sometime in November (which could be cold). What to do?

I guess I should not really worry about this now since I’m not engaged, and it doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon. But just in case…I’m worried.

Going through the motions.

Do you ever feel like your just going through the motions?

I do. On a daily basis in fact (weekends not included)

I wake up habitually late, take a shower and leave for work. I drive the BF to work and then get to my office right at 9am.

I get my work done but I feel like half the time I am just fooling around because I can’t convince myself to hunker down and do work all day.

For the most part I enjoy what I do. But I don’t love it.

And I leave at 6pm everyday even though I don’t take lunch. That’s right folks I get paid for an 8 hour day and I work 9! It’s definitely no fun especially because I’m always falling asleep by 4pm.

I feel like I have had to sacrifice many things I wanted to do so that in the long run I would be happy, but that long run keeps getting longer and farther away.

My calendar continues to fill up and I feel like I never have the time or energy to do the things I want or need to do.

I now kinda wish I had gone into teaching so that I could have the summers off. That’s really the way to go, I’m convinced. I could have been getting my Masters and then moving away like my friends, but I didn’t, I landed a job 6 days after my last final and started working 10 days before I actually graduated. I thought that that’s what I wanted…but it wasn’t
